Since the launch of MOVA Globes in 2004, our line of solar-powered creations has undergone incredible transformation and expansion. Our design collections have grown to include MOVA Space, MOVArt, Sports, and Special Moments, along with our core World Maps. In addition, the diameter sizes of MOVA Globes have expanded to three distinct sizes: 4.5”, 6”, and 8.5.” While a majority of our expansion has centered on designs, we’ve always been experimenting with different sizes, partly due to the many inquiries from our fans and customers. Our very first production run of MOVA Globes were all 6” but we quickly leaned people wanted a smaller and more affordable size which led to the 4.5” globes. Let’s take an in-depth look at the evolution of globe sizes and how each serves a different purpose.
8.5” MOVA Globes – Making a Statement
If you’ve seen our creations in a store, you likely saw a flurry of 4.5” globes, a dash of 6” globes, and maybe one or two 8.5” globes on display. Why so few of the largest size? While the largest-sized MOVA Globes take up significantly more space, you only need to see one 8.5” MOVA Globe to appreciate its presence. This sized MOVA Globe comes closest to the size of a traditional desktop globe (around 12”) and coupled with silent rotation, is the epitome of “making a statement.” Popular as a centerpiece for lobby displays or as a focal point on a conference table, the 8.5” globe offers a bold solution for those who prioritize size in their office and home décor. Not to mention, cities and countries are easier to identify, even if you have to wait over 30 seconds for each globe revolution. The Silver and Black Metallic design (pictured above), with latitude and longitude lines, is a crowd-favorite and undoubtedly a contemporary marvel.
6” MOVA Globes – Versatility at its Finest
Our original MOVA Globe size, the 6” diameter globe, gives our designs and details a chance to expand. Not too large to overwhelm and light enough to hold and show off to friends, this “best-of-both-worlds” globe is versatile and continues to grow in popularity. Occasionally referred to as our “medium” size, the 6” size weighs a mere 6 lbs. and appears as a significant size upgrade from the 4.5” size, allowing it to be more prominent in a room without taking away from its sleek design or quality. Now available in a majority of our design collections, the 6” MOVA Globe can be used as scale in your planets collection or simply as a big brother or sister to your 4.5” counterparts. 4.5” MOVA Globes – The Whole World in Your Hand
“He’s got the whole world in his hands!” You’ve probably heard that song when you were younger. It’s a common phrase used to indicate a great accomplishment or great things to come in the near future. With our signature 4.5” MOVA Globe, that phrase becomes reality. Picking it up, placing it on the palm of your hand, and watching it rotate magically is an experience that is enjoyed by people of all ages, whether it’s in a store, at a friend’s house, or at our booth at a tradeshow. Each reaction of amazement and excitement we see in a new person makes us proud to do what we do and inspires us to go above and beyond. Small enough to fit in your hand but impressive enough to bring a desk or bookshelf to life, the 4.5” MOVA Globe represents a true game-changer in the décor and tech industries.
We are often asked if we can make globes larger than 8.5” in diameter. In fact, we’ve had requests for globes as large as 60” in diameter! At 8.5” in diameter our current largest size already weighs in at a deceptively heavy 13lbs. Some customers are even surprised at the weight of our 4.5” globes (4 lbs), especially when they first hold them. MOVA Globes are filled with liquid, and thus with every increase in size, they become exponentially heavier. For example, a 10” globe would weigh approximately 30lbs and a 60” globe would require several persons and tools to transport; yes, estimated weight is in the triple digits!
